Through interviews conducted with males and females already in construction industry and those who are studying towards a career in construction, it is clear that there is still few numbers of women in the construction industry. Women are also findings ways as apprentices and trades people to position themselves within this new environment.
Women into Construction is an independent not-for-profit organisation that promotes gender equality in construction. We provide bespoke support to women wishing to work in the construction industry. We also assist contractors to recruit highly motivated, trained women, helping to reduce skills gaps and create a more gender-equal work-force.
The scholarly interests of the graduates from our joint PhD programs are wide-ranging. Recent dissertations have explored how cultural ideologies about gender, race, and class influence social norms for appropriate and acceptable bodies; the history of perfume and how the sense of smell contributed to people’s understandings of self and culture; the role of gender, race, and class anomalies.
Women comprise just 5% of the total UK prison population therefore it is argued that the specific needs of imprisoned women are being overlooked in the development of policy. As a result, there is a view that women are being disadvantaged in terms of the delivery of services within the prison regime including access to appropriate prison rehabilitation programmes and healthcare provision.
